What factors may cause smart locks to malfunction?
During the cold winter months, some families experience a slowdown in their smart locks as the weather cools. As electronic security products at the entrance to a home, do temperature influence their performance? What factors can cause smart locks to malfunction? Let's take a look!
Temperature affects battery capacity.
Whether using dry cell batteries or lithium batteries, their capacity decreases due to low temperatures. This slows the rate of chemical reactions in the battery, causing the battery to discharge less than normal, shortening its lifespan and draining faster.
Compared to ordinary dry cell batteries, alkaline dry cell batteries have a higher capacity. The chemical compounds in the battery are fixed, making them less affected by low temperatures. Therefore, alkaline batteries are the best choice for standard smart locks.
If the video lock is equipped with functions such as cameras, electronic doorbells and visualization, since it has higher requirements for battery capacity and endurance, we will equip it with lithium batteries with higher capacity density and support for cyclic charging.
In addition to choosing the right smart lock battery, we also need to develop the habit of regularly checking the battery level to ensure the normal use of the smart lock. Fuyu smart locks have a low battery reminder function. When the door lock battery level drops below 20%, the lock will issue a voice prompt "low battery, please replace the battery" to remind you to replace the battery in time.
Condensation can cause battery short circuits.
The battery compartment of most smart locks is located on the back panel of the door lock. When the indoor temperature and humidity are high and the outdoor temperature is low, cold air can enter the room and cause condensation to form on the back panel. When this condensation enters the battery compartment, it can cause a short circuit, affecting the function of the smart lock.
Therefore, when the temperature drops significantly, it is best to close doors and windows when leaving home to reduce the entry of cold air. When at home, open windows to ventilate the room to remove moisture.
Dry fingerprints can cause poor recognition.
Winter is very cold and dry, and our fingers often experience poor fingerprint recognition due to low temperatures or peeling skin caused by dryness.
Fuyu smart locks use semiconductor fingerprint sensors with high recognition sensitivity. Not only can they penetrate the skin's epidermis to capture finer fingerprint details, but they also feature a fingerprint authentication repair function. If a finger is only slightly abraded or peeling, the fingerprint sensor can restore a partially damaged or blurred fingerprint image without affecting fingerprint recognition.
If your fingerprint is peeling or severely damaged, you can register a few more fingerprints as a backup. If your finger is not peeling or damaged and the fingerprint recognition still cannot be performed, it may be due to dirt on the fingerprint collection window. You can gently wipe it with a dry soft cloth.
The above are the main reasons why "smart locks are not easy to use in winter". If the above factors are excluded and the smart lock still has abnormal conditions such as insensitive fingerprint recognition, lock body jamming, or difficult key insertion and removal, please do not spray lubricating oil by yourself, and contact the installation master in time for on-site adjustment.
In future, we will always try our best to make high quality, popular and reliable chinese door lock products for our customers.
